2 ( SPM Future plans and Growth Strategies)
SPM’s
management has outlined the following growth strategies
and/or future plans for the next 5 years, which
is to be at the technological forefront in the
provision of engineering services to world class
companies:
There are 3 growth strategies SPM is targeting
to adopt:
To become a Total
Engineering Services Solution Centre
By leveraging on its existing know-how and competitive
advantages that SPM readily offer to its existing
and new customers, the growth plan is eventually
to transform its existing operations to become
an end-to-end total engineering solution centre
for high precision component machining to sub-assembly
services. Although currently the company provides
both types of engineering solutions above, improvements
can further be made in the following areas for
it to achieve its total solutions goal:
• Level
of engineering capabilities and technical skills
via OJT and training to the shop floor operators
and middle management. SPM’s management places significant
emphasis in HR policies and practices of the company
to ensure that skill development are …
•
Machining
technologies in terms of tooling and supporting
equipment to enable a more comprehensive and end-to-end
machining capabilities. • Data
management systems that automates and enables fast
and real time access to operational information
such as scheduling, process flow management data,
etc
•
Management and process control tools and mechanism to be subsequently implemented by stages into the operational aspects of the company. Some of these tools identified are production, HR and quality KPIs, SPC, Balance Scorecards, 5C, 3-sigma, 5Cs policy, etc.
• Supplier
network of the company needs to be further improved
upon on their capabilities to compliment SPM’s
business policies and standards. SPM seeks to
work closely with its suppliers for that purpose.
As a total engineering solution centre, it will
be able to procure more stable middle to long-term
contracts from its existing and new customers
as compared to jobbing. These contract-based relationships
with its customers allow SPM to planned ahead
knowing that it has a secure based of income over
a period of time.
To
become a developer and manufacturer of Automated
and Semi-Automated Machines
Through the SPM’s experience in providing machine
refurbishment services to its customers and sub-assembly
capabilities and by leveraging on its high precision
component manufacturing capabilities, SPM sees
itself to be a potential OEM and OBM developer
and manufacturer of automated and semi-automated
machines for the manufacturing industries. The
scope of activities will also expand to include
consulting, designing and development activities
for the machines aside from existing capabilities
such as assembly, testing and commissioning of
automated and semi-automated machines and equipment.
SPM’s management sees significant potential within
the Indo-China region for economic growth. The
management of the company foresees more manufacturing-based
industries to sprout and thus presents SPM with
the right opportunity to become one of the suppliers
of high quality and reliable OEM and OBM automated
and semi-automated machines.
Using
ICT to Enhance Business Competitiveness
The management of SPM is a firm believer in the
use of ICT to further extend its business competitiveness
and in view of the globalise nature of its business
i.e serving a number of customers located abroad.
The management of the Company
intends to develop and implement a web-based customer
relationship, project management and procurement/order
processing portal within its existing website.
The implementation of this initiative will be
done in stages and will be streamlined to in-house
ICT infrastructure setup.
Having a portal-based centre,
the Company seeks to provide faster, more accurate
and responsive services to its customers, in particular
repeat and loyal customers located outside of
Thailand. The planned ICT infrastructure not only
streamlined order processing but also reduces
cost due to human errors in documentation i.e
filling up of purchase orders, etc. Given that
many MNCs in the world today are going online
in particular in their procurement process, the
management of SPM views its planned investment
in ICT will give the Company a competitive edge
compared to its local competitors in Thailand.
